The Proposal

On 12/12/09 we were in Crystal Lake on Main Beach. The plan was to hang out then go Christmas shopping. (Meagan always needs a plan!) Blake came up with a good idea of setting the camera on a timer to get a cute picture of us: on the lake, sun setting, etc. After a few trials, he pressed the picture button, ran over...and proposed. Hence-the picture. It was perfect and even more perfect that we have a picture to never forget it!

Happy 4th of July!

Hey All :)

Thought I owed an update, although things are slowing down right now. We have had some serious discussions on times for the ceremony and reception hall. Here are our options: 3:00 Ceremony, 6:00 Reception or 5:00 Ceremony, 6:30 reception. I know many of you are going to like the 5:00 reception because it leaves the least amount of time in between and what wedding-goer doesn't like that?!? But...as a bride...I must put the following in perspective: time for pictures in between, everyone getting to the hotel to take the shuttle to the reception hall, and the dreaded Friday night traffic. We are leaning toward choice #1.

Blake and I are certainly not seeing each other before the ceremony-it is something we just won't compromise on. I think Blake feels stronger about it then myself!

Another thing: Write our own vows or not?!? Anyone who knows Blake knows he wants to and also knows he's going to blow any vows I write out of the water....what to do?!?!

Fourth of July plans: Meagan work-Blake family time.

Still looking for great invitation ideas-we have a few and are close to choosing.

Hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday!!!

  1. I'd vote for #1 as well assuming, of course, you aren't talking about a 5 minute ceremony. 3 hours is a bit on the long side unless distances (and that includes traffic delays) are pretty bad; which I have no idea of).
So, what are distances and the typical times to drive it really like (google maps and direction can help there). How many people, how many photos, how much flexibility i the timing of the ceremony. Could you time it backwards, as it were: if it takes 30 minutes to get to the hotel, 15 minutes shuttle to the reception hall, 10 minutes to get the reception line organized, etc. Figure that out and see how much slack time there would really be between the service and the reception. That might give you a better ides of which time works better. Rushing is never good for anyone and where things will fall apart. But unless there is really enough time in between that everyone could go back to the hotel and relax first… IAC: I' sure which ever way it comes down it will be fine.

Well, I can only speak for me, but we were far too traditional to write our own vows. So, we used the old traditional ones, and from memory at that. But everyone is different and needs to find a path that works for them. And, it is NOT a competition. Writing your own vows is something you BOTH do TOGETHER. If Blake has more word, that's OK, as long as those words reflect both of you. Thy need to express how both of you feel regardless of who is best able to put those feelings into words.

    Peace
