The Proposal

On 12/12/09 we were in Crystal Lake on Main Beach. The plan was to hang out then go Christmas shopping. (Meagan always needs a plan!) Blake came up with a good idea of setting the camera on a timer to get a cute picture of us: on the lake, sun setting, etc. After a few trials, he pressed the picture button, ran over...and proposed. Hence-the picture. It was perfect and even more perfect that we have a picture to never forget it!

Engagement Photos are Done!

So I'm totally into getting things done now, after all, the wedding is less then 200 days away! I can hardly believe just over 6 months and this will be over. I am so excited to push it aside and be married!

Here is a picture from our session. More to come ASAP!

Dress is BOUGHT

Today I am thankful for my Dad. He bought me my wedding dress yesterday and put up with the entire process. He may never offer to do it again for any of my sisters :) haha But he answers the phone every time I call, reminds me daily to enjoy the process, and has great ideas and advice. I don't know what I would do without him!

Next step-invitations just need to be ordered...everything about them is ready. Then florist appointment. Engagement photos are the 26th...so I better start thinking of an outfit and some fun things to bring that represent us....hmmm

We have lots of family time coming up soon. Blake's Mom and Stepdad will be here for Thanksgiving, we have many birthdays to celebrate, my Aunt Barbara will be in town, and Blake and I are going to Texas to see my Dad for Christmas. We are excited to enjoy the next few months with the people we love.

Thanks for everyone who is apart of this exciting time :)

The Hotel

I know...it's only the end of October (230 days, but who is counting?!?) But I want to get out some hotel information for out of town guests.

We have a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn in Deer Park. It's a GREAT location (right by the outdoor mall, lots of food and shopping!) It's super affordable ($79/night) and they serve breakfast in the mornings (which I can't pass up!)

http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=CHIDPHX

That is the website for the hotel, just ask for "Fenwick/Dwyer" block. If you only want to stay there the night of the wedding (there is a shuttle) that is fine. If you want a hotel room for the rest of the time somewhere else (Crystal Lake, Mundelein) Let me know I will get you that information!

I know..we stink at updating our blog!

Ah...life is good...but certainly crazy!

We can hardly believe how fast time has flown by!!! We are starting to have to really plan things out now!

We picked our DJ-he was referred to us by a co-worker. We are very excited to have that in place! We have postponed engagement photos to after Thanksgiving-literally the 26th. We have a few ideas we are really anxious about! We still need to order the invites-although they are picked out. It only takes a week to get them-so we aren't in a rush. As far as the dress...well....the idea is in hibernation. The dress is still there-and we might go look one more place. I just don't feel like there is enough time for anything!

As far as the rest of things: Blake is working LONGGGG hours at work, and I'm teaching, working at the Swim Club, and tutoring two days a week....so to make matters worse we barely get to communicate on anything! But we are making it through and enjoying the time.

The house is great-Blake is a little more "cluttery" then me but I'm giving him time to enjoy that before I move in. Like seriously a 12 x 18 in cookie pan sitting on the counter is not my idea of decorating :)

We (well really just me) are looking for a kitchen table. I have one in my mind-I just have to find it! I got a great deal on a headboard last weekend and it looks great! We would like to get real bedroom furniture too :) But of course, having the furnace checked, windshield fixed, and medical bills come first!

Oh! One more wedding thing-we are leaning towards the videographer idea....I'm actually excited about it. I didn't think I would be!

Sorry again for the delay-things should be picking up soon!

Invitations

That's what we are currently working on! The good news is that we know what we want. The bad news is-we can't figure out what to say! We are hoping to get them ordered this week! One less thing to worry about :) The 18th we are taking engagement pictures-we are taking them at the beach where Blake proposed. We are super excited about them :)

Life has been crazy with the end of summer and the beginning of school. The wedding dress isn't officially mine yet-we have one more fitting with the seamstress to see if it is the one! We are doing that next Saturday. Since Saturdays are booking up fast with wedding plans-I have decided to quit one of my jobs. It feels so refreshing! I'm looking into tutoring-much more for me!

Blake is doing great-shorthanded at work. But that means overtime :) He is feeling extremely good-but don't scare him, it still hurts a little! (I learned the hard way!)

We are also excited to announce that we have added to our bridal party! Kaylan Hay (Meagan's cousin!) is going to stand up in the wedding as well. We will have 2 maid-of-honors and 1 best man. We are super excited to have her with us during the process. She is more like a Sister to Meagan-and we couldn't imagine her as anything else. Super pumped she said YES!

We have made a few other decisions that will be announced as time comes! In the meantime, we are finishing invites, meeting with DJ's (Thanks for all the ideas!), and talking about flowers.

The last dilemma-to use a videographer or not?!?!? We don't have excessive funds....but I hear that people wish they would have had them. Let us know what you think!

310 days to go!

Can you believe it? We can't! It's amazing how time flies when you're having fun! (If you can call it fun-just kidding :) )

Blake is good-he went back to work yesterday. Everyone was glad he was back-his only restriction is lifting.

I start school the 23rd. I made it to my classroom yesterday-I'm excited to get back!

We have dresses down to a top 3. On Friday, we are going back for ONE more try on-then a decision will be made!

Goals for this month:
1. Decide on roles for everyone we want involved in our wedding
2. Buy invitations
3. Discuss a DJ
4. Visit at least one florist

Then we will be on schedule!

Any suggestions to our list-please let us know!

Surgery goes great!

We are so thankful that surgery went well. The doctor put in a 4 1/2 diameter piece of mesh in Blake's stomach to help prevent hernias. He has a 99% chance of not getting any more in those areas! We are thrilled. Blake, however, is in a lot of pain. The doctor said this is to be expected since he has foreign mesh in his stomach. Thanks for all the prayers!

As far as wedding details, we are at a difficult part! (Well I am at least!) I have limited my dresses to a top 4. Thanks to both my mom and dad who have been incredibly patient with me :) Next step, I'm hoping to get my sister and mom in one last time, try on all 4, and make a decision! Aileen is coming in next week-on Tuesday. We are super excited! We might even find a maid-of-honor dress! I have pictures of the dresses-let me know if you want to see them and I can email them to you. Blake would kill me if I posted them :)

So Much To Talk About!

We have so much going on right now. I will try to recap everything but may need to come back and add more!

1) We are having a house warming/ engagement party at our house on Aug. 7th. This is to be a small little get together with our family members who have not yet been to the new place or had a chance to see us in a while. We hope to offer them a nice first experience in our new home!

2) We are now registered at 2 places! Bed Bath and Beyond and Crate and Barrel. We are trying to keep things basic for right now as the seasons and styles will be changing. everyone was asking about our registries, so we figured we could throw our essentials on there for the time being! We do plan on making a small registry at Home Depot in the future... we'll keep you posted.

3) Blake got promoted again! He is now what is called a Service Manager. This is one step away from his goal for his first 2 years at Chipotle.... and he has only been there for a year! Congrats!

4) The Bad- Blake has had a bump on his stomach for quite some time now. We recently went to the Dr. to have him take a look at it. At first glance he did not think much of it but did find it serious enough to send him to a surgeon. So just yesterday we went and saw him. It turns out that Blake has a "Big" hernia above his belly button, a "little" hernia on his belly button, and a deformity of his abdominal muscle (untreatable for males, however it is in no way causing pain or problems). Needless to say this was a bit shocking as we were thinking it would be a nice easy fix.
So in the end, surgery is required on July 29th to repair both hernia's. This is a very common surgery, unfortunately with Blake's history of Hernia's (4), they will be taking extra precautions which will add pain and time to the recovery. He's a big boy though and will come out better from it.

I think that is all we have for now. We will be talking to ya'll soon!

Happy 4th of July!

Hey All :)

Thought I owed an update, although things are slowing down right now. We have had some serious discussions on times for the ceremony and reception hall. Here are our options: 3:00 Ceremony, 6:00 Reception or 5:00 Ceremony, 6:30 reception. I know many of you are going to like the 5:00 reception because it leaves the least amount of time in between and what wedding-goer doesn't like that?!? But...as a bride...I must put the following in perspective: time for pictures in between, everyone getting to the hotel to take the shuttle to the reception hall, and the dreaded Friday night traffic. We are leaning toward choice #1.

Blake and I are certainly not seeing each other before the ceremony-it is something we just won't compromise on. I think Blake feels stronger about it then myself!

Another thing: Write our own vows or not?!? Anyone who knows Blake knows he wants to and also knows he's going to blow any vows I write out of the water....what to do?!?!

Fourth of July plans: Meagan work-Blake family time.

Still looking for great invitation ideas-we have a few and are close to choosing.

Hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday!!!

The Checklist

Here's a picture Nancy took when she was in town-it's about time we get an updated picture of us!

Now the checklist dilemma...

So I belong to a couple of websites that give checklists on what needs to be done and when for weddings. It's really helpful in prioritizing things-I obviously know what needs to be done but not in what order.

The one thing that is floundering out there is wedding workout. It says it over and over again. I cannot afford a personal trainer. I rely on good weather for a good run. (LOTS of rain lately...) I also have a favorite yoga DVD. I have lots of workout gadgets and Biggest Loser DVDs...but my back isn't ready for those. I would be no good if I wasn't walking again. It sits in the back of my mind...knowing I'm doing what I can...but wish I could do more. I would love any suggestions anyone has on this-especially any healthy snacks that I can add in my daily activity. I'm sure busy and have no choice eating what I can find. I have been divulging in Special K bars-but need something else too.

I've really put off dress shopping because of this-Getting back into shape from surgery was harder then I ever imagined.

Everything else is going well-going to spend Father's Day with Bob (Blake's Dad) today.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's close to us! We love you all :)

ONE YEAR!

Ok, ok we know. We haven't blogged in awhile! (Thank you Alexis for pointing this out!) So lots to update on.

House first: Blake is totally moved in! We closed on June 7th. It was overall pretty smooth, besides the fact they screwed up the numbers and called us to tell us we needed an extra $10,000 for closing! YIKES! However, it was their fault and we didn't need to bum any money from anyone :) Blake moved in that night. His Dad, Stepmom Renee, Brother Chris, and Sister-In-Law Melissa, and my mom helped us move it. Another smooth event for us. We ordered pizza's, cleaned, put together furniture-it was fun!

Now it's been just over a week that Blake has lived here. Things have been pretty good. We had a little slip up getting cable and internet (Shocking!) We bought a couch yesterday to go with the love seat we have that will be delivered next week. And not to mention too many trips to Walmart and too much money spent on each trip! We are totally up to visitors (Well Blake is!) so let us know if you want to stop by!

Now for the wedding: ONE YEAR TODAY, and we will be saying the "I Do's"!!!! We can hardly believe it. We found a ceremony location, Long Grove Community Church, and we picked our photographer, Krisin La Voie. We are super excited for both! The next few things include setting up the DJ and wedding dresses!

Everything else is overall good. Blake's car broke down-but it is back in action. I have been working 2 jobs plus babysitting this summer-so staying busy. Blake is job searching for a second job-any suggestions?!?!

Sorry again for the late blog-I will do better now that life has calmed down!

Closing Time-

time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.

Well closing time is here and I know I want to go home! It is Friday the 4th at 1 o'clock! We will be moving as much as we can in and I (Blake) will be living there. As long as all goes to plan. Tomorrow is our final walkthrew at 7 pm. We will keep you all posted!

Peace, Blake

And we have.....

A NEIGHBOR!

While I was out taking pictures of the outside of the house-a neighbor came out to see what I was doing. (Yes-I did look like a creep!) He was so nice! He already invited us for dinner because he loves to cook! A great combo for Blake. It's starting to feel real now...and I'm secretly really excited :) Still no closing date-but we are moving in the right direction!

Per Nancy's Request :)

Hey All!

No new info on our end here. We have been faxing over record number of pages to update our mortgage information. Also, we have been shopping for homeowners insurance and found a FABULOUS agent that I am super excited about. The next step is to get our car insurance there too! We don't have a closing date yet-which is okay with us. We are aiming for the second week of June....but of course will close when it's time.

As far as wedding information-we are still in the photography stage. Although, we did meet someone we loved, we are still shopping around for the next few weeks.

We will let you know when we get to close! Oh-and we do get to do a final walk through as always. But that means within 48 hours before closing and no sneaking in beforehand...lots of people have asked :)

Are You Ready?

Alright here we go again. 4th post in 4 days, and it's a big one.

WE GOT THE HOUSE!!!!!

We are in talks as far as final details and closing. Of course we are also planning a few more trips through the place to make sure everything is everything. As always we will keep you posted more as we know it!

Thanks ya'll

3 Posts In 3 Days: What!?!?

That's right. Another new post. So tonight we met with a photographer. She was awesome. She is young and full of talent. Her sample photos were simple yet brilliant. She really seemed to have the knack of capturing the essence of a moment. And she comes recommended like everyone on our list. And was below our price estimate.... that's the biggest plus. So next up is to check out the others we have in mind. But she set a high bar! We will update you as we go!
Peace

Back in the Game

That's right! Apparently, things got lost in translation. We DID have a signed contract in time for the first time home buyer rebate. And you probably think it's silly that we didn't know that-but we did! What we don't have is the seller's banks approval. So we didn't think we qualified, but WE DO!!! We are super excited. The last thing is that we need a closing date by June 30th. They did the appraisal last week-so we are in it full swing!

I made a dress appointment today for May 29th. I'm planning on going with my mom and Blake's mom. It's a bridal shop in Lake Geneva. It will give me some motivation to keep walking :)

As always-we will keep you updated!

And.... uh oh!

Well the tax credit came and went. When we started this adventure the new tax credit extension had just been announced. We put our bid in about 3 months ago praying that it would be enough time. Unfortunately it did not work out.

So what's next guys?: Well, we are talking with our contacts and seeing what the situation is. We don't want to lose any money by pulling our bid, so we want to see what happens with that.

And after you find that out?: We will go from there. We truly do like this place a lot. In my mind it is still our number one choice right now. We will continue to look at other opportunities though. Keeping an open mind is key right now.

What if you stick with this one?: I have a few ideas to throw around. The first is, since the tax credit is gone, a lot of Realtors are offering a $8,000 in your hand type special. Meaning we still get our 8 grand just in the form of our payments not cold hard cash. The second would be to pull out and offer a lower bid. The problem with this is we would have to play the waiting game again. Is that worth it? Number three is to just stick to our guns and wait it out. We are getting an incredible deal already so it may just be best to stick with this!

Feelings?: I am taking everything a little more hard than Meagan. She is a big believer in everything happens for a reason, as am I. That being said, I'm not understanding what the reason is right now. I think once the disappointment wears off I will be better.

Any other questions?: If you have anything else to ask please do. We will be posting our progress AS SOON AS WE KNOW ANYTHING. The one thing I am actually happy about is now that the Tax Credit is over, maybe we will stop getting 10,000,000,000,234,757,389,469 questions each day. I understand everyone would like to know what is going on. We would too. But when we find something out, we would first call everyone immediately, and second post on here. Especially if you are immediate family (Mom) :)

As for the wedding, everything is on track and we will be getting more serious about planning as the one year to go mark is here.

Other plans: I am currently working on my second promotion in 2 months. By the end of the week we plan to have a meeting set up to get that taken care of. Meagan's school is coming down the home stretch so she has been busy finding a summer job. It's odd because by this time of the year she is usually stoked to be getting off. But I think her time off through the middle of the year has gotten her back into focus and a routine.
We also plan to take a trip to visit Meagan's dad, step mom, and siblings in Austin sometime in the summer. I am not sure if I will be able to make it but at least Meagan can get out of dodge! She deserves it.

She has been my steady ship through all these rough waves. And each day she reminds me of how happy she is that we are house hunting and planning a wedding. That just makes me love her even more and proves to me that everything will be ok.

Welp, that's all I have ya'll. It was a lot but figured it get's everything taken care of. Leave some notes. Peace!
Blake

Still waiting.

Yes, it's true. We are still waiting on the news of the house and we only have 5 days to get a signed contract. Maybe if Obama wasn't so involved in other things, he could think about extending the 1st time home buyer rebate...but I won't go into my politics. Blake is a little more nervous than me....I know everything happens for a reason. We will have to rethink the house if we don't get the rebate. Since we aren't getting married for another year, do we really need a mortgage then? Probably not. But that's another bag of worms.

No wedding updates really. We are meeting with photographers soon. I appreciate all the feedback on names of people. Believe it or not, many of them were booked! Then once we pick one, we can do engagement photos! We also have some days we are planning on going to see our DJ to make sure it's who we want...we don't see a problem there.

No new news....

I know-we have heard the question a million times now, we know what you want to ask-What's up with the house?!? No new news, and really, we haven't been going at in any longer then any other short sale. It is out of our control and in God's control. We are turning it over to Him. Everything happens with a purpose and we keep this in mind as we bite our finger nails :)

Just want to share a quick story on how wonderful Blake is to me. He gives more then enough to our relationship and really works at being the man he wants to be. On his day off (last Tuesday) he made phone calls. Yes, everyone, phone calls! I know this will surprise some of you that know the true Blake. But not just any phone calls either: homeowners insurance and ceremony sites. He got us a quote for insurance and had it emailed to us. And inquired on a ceremony site....details to come later :) He went out of his comfort zone to make phone calls he knows little to nothing about. Just the topic of insurance of any kind makes him cringe. I was, and continue to be, impressed by his actions. He is truly wonderful and I do not know what I would do without him. I thank God everyday for Blake.

2 Mortgages...figures....

So good news and bad news on the house. The good news is we have verbal approval from the seller's bank. The bad news is she has two mortgages....so we need the approval from BOTH banks....figures. But that is ok, Blake and I both feel great about everything. And for the tax rebate we only need to have a signed contract by the end of April. 29 days and counting!

We are very slow in picking a ceremony spot for the wedding. We have a few ideas and just have not pursued any of them. Quite frankly, the time needed to do all these things is a little overwhelming and I don't quite have it :) Baby steps....

I started full day of work today and it was great. I couldn't be any happier being back at school with my students. They were ecstatic to have me back as well, at least for now! Blake is going to Arizona to see his mom in just over a week. He deserves a vacation and I'm happy that he gets to go. He is lucky that it doesn't seem like the closing will be that week!

Spending a lot of money on a wedding has been really hard for me. (And it's been minimal so far!) Although we have a tight budget, because I refuse to let it get out of hand, it is so hard to spend the money on one night. I'm continuing to look forward to my wedding day and have to keep that in mind as we go through it all. Plus-we will need to furnish a house soon-that might freak me out the most! Blake is a trooper and is an amazing guy to support me and listen to all my crazy ideas. (I think the craziest might be having his pay check be directly deposited in my account-I figured it was worth asking ;) )

I'm always looking for words of wisdom and anything calming you have to offer....did I mention I'm never going to have the nerve to try on wedding dress..just the thought....

Look at the top!

Did you see it? We have an OFFICIAL wedding date. Only 3 months after our engagement but that is okay we are really excited about it! We have signed the contract at the Concorde. They have been awesome so far. They gave us lots of free things (and NOT just because I cried!) Next step = ceremony site!

In the Past Week...

We've have had a lot of new things going on!

First, Blake got a promotion! WOOHOO! We are very excited for him. He is really happy doing what he is doing...which is a true blessing. He motivates and encourages me the way he enjoys his job.

Second, I went back to work on a part time basis. I am very happy to be working again, it makes the days go by faster. It is very exhausting and my motivation to update the site and work on my wedding list of things to do is, little to none!

Third, we have a tentative place for a reception. The Concorde in Kildeer- right off of Rand Rd. Of course-nothing is official until the papers are signed. We are hoping to get there next week!

Fourth, my best friend Kelly has had some pretty bad news. At 26 years old, she has been diagnosed with Cancer of the Bile Duct. (There is a fancier name-but I don't know it!) We are praying for her everyday. Kelly and I went to school together since elementary school but our friendship really kicked off towards the end of high school. She is truly an amazing friend. Unfortunately, our relationship has been "long-distance" since college but she is home now. Please keep her in your prayers. I'm including her blog for all to follow. As you can imagine, her medical bills are growing. She is selling T-Shirts if anyone is interested to help with the costs. Please let me know!

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kellymeloney/mystory

We are looking forward to another great week ahead. Not to mention-Friday afternoon marks the beginning of spring break. Let's hope the weather cooperates here!

Smiling today woohoo

So today we went to see Astoria Banquets and I really liked it. Not coming out stressed is a good sign! It's in Buffalo Grove-the only thing we would need is a ceremony location-any suggestions?

I finally feel at ease about the whole thing! I think we are headed in the right direction!

Edit: We are going to try to see the Concorde on Tuesday the 9th. Blake has not seen it yet! After looking over all our positives and negatives from our favorite sites, this seemed to be the clear cut winner. BUT that all depends on what Blake thinks after visiting them!

Reception Locations = DRAG!

Touring the reception halls has been really hard. I haven't found the perfect place yet! They are really expensive with nothing to offer. I recently saw the Arboretum in Buffalo Grove and it was not what we were looking for. We want a fun, simple reception hall and an outside ceremony.

A few places that are on our list:
Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates
http://www.poplarcreekcc.com/

The Concorde in Kildeer
http://www.concordebanquets.com/

And we are going to Astoria Banquets on Saturday
http://www.astoriabanquets.com/

I have requested information for a few more locations then we will make the decision and pick a date!

I attended a Bridal Expo with my mom and sister this past weekend. It was very overwhelming! We won $100 off a photography package and Aileen and I won $300 off laser hair removal and skin tightening (hmmmm....I didn't think this was an issue for us!) We are still waiting to win something we will use :)

We have changed a few options on our blog-you will have to register to leave comments. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do so-we would love feedback, encouragement, etc. We just want to know who is leaving us the message :)

House news: Seller approved the offer the next day-we are awaiting on the bank. It is looking good! Our attorney has been in constant contact with everyone and we signed the mortgage papers so that they are ready for take off!

                                    House- Update!

Good and Bad news. The house in McHenry didn't work out. It's actually a real bizarre situation, but we are totally okay with it. We found an even better townhouse in Volo. Not only do I think it is absolutely wonderful-but it will be about the same distance to work. Unfortunately, Blake will have a longer ride. What was 5 minutes will now be about 20 minutes. He still isn't even in competition with my drive to work! House shopping was a totally different experience then I imagined. The stress of the ups and downs was difficult. I really think that we have made a great choice although nothing is set in stone yet. Email us for the address and you can look it up-it is beautiful :) Can't wait to hear the final words and owning a house!

And We Have Color!

Mango-orange, Turquoise-blue, After looking and changing our minds multiple times, we have come to the conclusion of Mango and Turquoise to be our "Colors".
The choice seems logical as Blake is huge on orange and happens to love mango's, and is obsessed with the ocean to represent the blue! Meagan on the other hand was flipping through a Bride magazine (Thanks to Nancy!) and saw a picture and knew they were the colors of our wedding! After a little research it won't be easy incorporating the colors but we are up to the challenge.

We have not decided exactly what we will be using the colors on... you'll have to wait and find out! :)

Happy Birthday Blake!

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Blake! Blake- I'm so lucky to have you in my life. Even though I can barely walk- I had a blast today celebrating your special day :) Thanks for being an amazing person and friend. I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with you. Love you! *Meagan*

Wedding Planning-GO!

As many of you know-I had to have last-minute back surgery. Blake and I decided to focus on house searching and put the wedding on hold. Well-we put in an offer on a townhouse in McHenry. It is a short sale-so we haven't heard anything yet! And surgery was last Thursday and VERY successful- I thank God everyday. So it's time to start.

We are aiming for either June 10th or 17th in 2011. Both Friday evenings...we save a little money this way :) We have a rough draft of a guest list with a smaller wedding of 175. We found a hotel in Mundelein that we both adored-but we aren't going to be suckers and not look elsewhere. I'm hoping to get my drivers to take me to a few places on the weekends. A few ideas include the following: The Concord, Chevy Chase, The Arboretum in Buffalo Grove, etc. Please send any suggestions our way!

We also have a DJ in mind already! It's a really close friend of the family. We are going to go hear him play soon to confirm the deal!

We have one idea for a photographer-but we are open to anyone else! Please share your idea!

Thanks for following our journey-we are very excited to share this experience with all!

xoxo

P.S. Don't forget to share your advice on our last post!
